What to Expect at Your First Suit Fitting in Phuket
A step-by-step guide to your first bespoke tailoring appointment — what happens, what to bring, what questions to ask, and how to communicate what you want.
Walking into a tailor's shop for the first time can feel intimidating. You may not know the right vocabulary or be unsure what questions to ask. This guide takes you through exactly what happens at a first fitting at Anmol Collection so you can arrive prepared and confident.
Before You Arrive: What to Bring
- A suit you like the fit of: Showing a tailor a garment you like is the most efficient way to communicate fit preferences.
- Reference photos: Screenshots from Instagram or magazines of suits in the style you want. Save them to your phone before you visit.
- Your intended use: Wedding? Business meetings? Casual dinners? The occasion determines fabric weight, construction, and formality level.
The Consultation: Fabric and Style
Your first appointment begins with a conversation, not measurements. Mr. Raju will ask about your intended use, climate, style preferences, and timeline. Take your time handling fabric swatches — feel the weight, observe how it drapes, hold it in natural light to see how it works with your skin tone.
Taking Measurements
For a bespoke suit this is a detailed process — typically 20 or more individual measurements. Mr. Raju will also observe your posture and natural stance. Stand naturally; the tailor needs to measure you as you actually stand, not as you think you should stand.
How to Communicate What You Want
Be specific and honest. If something does not feel right, say so — even if you cannot name exactly what is wrong. You are not expected to know tailoring terminology. What you should not do is stay silent about something that bothers you. The fitting process exists to correct problems before the suit is finished.
