The Art of Choosing the Right Fabric for Your Suit in Phuket's Climate
From the weight of wool to the drape of linen — a complete guide to selecting the fabric that best serves your lifestyle, occasion, and Phuket's tropical climate.
Choosing the right fabric is the single most important decision you make when commissioning a bespoke suit in Phuket. A beautifully constructed suit in the wrong fabric will be uncomfortable to wear and age poorly. Get the fabric right and everything else builds on a sound foundation.
Understanding Fabric Weight
Fabric weight is measured in grams per square metre (gsm). For a suit you will wear in Thailand, stay below 240 gsm. The sweet spot for tropical climates is 200–260 gsm — breathes well, holds its shape, and works in most temperatures.
Wool: The Versatile Foundation
Wool breathes, regulates temperature, resists odour, drapes beautifully, and holds a crease. Tropical-weight wools (180–220 gsm) are surprisingly comfortable in Phuket's climate. For most customers, a Super 100s or 120s in a tropical weight is the best all-around choice.
Linen: The Hot-Climate Specialist
Pure linen is the coolest fabric you can wear. It absorbs moisture and dries quickly. Its characteristic is natural creasing — a linen suit will develop wrinkles with wear. Linen suits work beautifully for beach weddings, outdoor events, and smart-casual occasions.
Wool-Linen Blends: The Best of Both
A wool-linen blend gives you the breathability of linen with the structure of wool. These fabrics are excellent for Phuket and have become increasingly popular at Anmol Collection.
What to Avoid in Phuket's Climate
Heavy English wools, velvet, and any fabric above 280 gsm should be avoided if you plan to wear the suit in Thailand. If ordering a suit for use in a cold climate at home, heavier fabrics are available — just let us know your intended use from the outset.
