Suit Alterations in Phuket: What Can Be Fixed, Resized, and Restored
Not every alteration job is the same. This guide explains what professional alterations can and cannot achieve — and when it's worth investing in expert repair work.
A well-made suit that no longer fits perfectly does not need to be discarded. Expert alterations can transform a garment that has become too large, too small, or dated. At Anmol Collection in Karon, Phuket, alterations and repairs are treated with the same precision as new commissions.
What Alterations Are Commonly Possible?
- Taking in or letting out the waist: A jacket waist can typically be adjusted by 2–3 cm without affecting the overall structure.
- Shortening or lengthening sleeves: Straightforward on most jackets, more complex on those with working buttonholes.
- Trouser waist adjustment: Taking in or letting out the waistband, adjusting the seat, or tapering the leg.
- Hemming trousers: Simple alteration, completed quickly.
- Replacing a lining: Worn or damaged linings can be replaced entirely.
- Repairing worn areas: Cuffs, elbows, and collar edges are common wear points that can be reinforced or recut.
What Cannot Be Altered?
Shoulder width is the most complex alteration in tailoring — often more cost-effective to commission a new jacket. Chest size cannot be increased beyond the existing seam allowance. Changing lapel style requires major reconstruction.
Turnaround Time for Tourists
Simple alterations can typically be completed within 24–48 hours. More complex work takes 3–5 days. Bring garments in as early as possible during your stay.
